hello Olympian my name is Stephanie de Haro I'm a School counseling intern here at Bassett High School today we're going to be working on day two of the four year plan so let's get started okay so day two of the four year plan so if you remember last week we provided you with a lot of beneficial information we went over the high school graduation requirements for Bassett High School we went were the University admission requirements are also known as a through G we went over the various options that you have After High School or other other known as post-secondary options whether you plan to go straight to the middle where are you plan to go to a community college a private institution of 4-year University if you plan to go to vocational school and so on and so that was a lot of great information for you day one now we're going to do more Hands-On and this will be before your plants you're going to be creating your own for your plan and before we get started I did want to mention that this is a guide this is a guide help you out during your four years here at Bassett High School and to help you better understand what their graduation requirements are and the University admission requirements also known as a through G so that your best prepared at the end of your senior year and you can best decide what's the best option for you after high school I'm keep in mind that the course offerings do change every year and so the four year plan will look differently for each of you and the goal of the four-year plan is to work on it every year so don't know don't worry about being accurate in terms of what you add on to your place things can change and this instructions will be as follows you're going to reference the course catalog and review the graduation requirements for Bassett High School to determine which classes you want to plan to take for during your 9th through 12th grade so what we're going to do is I'm going to take you to the course catalog I'm keep in mind that you will have access to this PowerPoint so that you can use it and you'll just need to click on link and I'll take take you directly to the course catalog for Bassett High School so it's going to look like this this course catalog is a great tool to use includes important information this table of context contents will guide you terms of specific classes that you want to look for and then as we scroll down we'll be able to see the courses required for graduation on the left hand side and a through G requirements for those of you interested in transferring to a 4-year University so feel free to review this and reference it as you're choosing your classes to add for your another thing I wanted to show you is that this is a great tool to use I'm to know about specific classes that we offer and this is just for the next academic year I'm so freaked out 9 there's no prerequisite meaning there's no class that you have to take prior before enrolling in this class it gives you a course description and terms of what to expect to learn in that class and then it'll give you other houses that we offer so if you are interested maybe right now you're taking English 9 and you want to challenge yourself in the classroom and take a more rigorous class and take honors next year you do it tells you right here typically what grade you need to receive so you do need an a grade in English 9 in order to be considered for English 10 honors so that's a great example and a great tool to use as you're doing the course catalog and you'll find out courses that will be offering for next year on here so please use this as a reference as you're adding the classes to your plan and then you'll also be receiving this which is the four year plan document itself your teacher will provide this and have it on the assignments tab for the College and Career seminar class so make sure that you have both the PowerPoint and the document downloaded so that we can so that you can turn it in and get points for it so I've already included my name up here make sure that you include your last name first and then your first name your student ID number and today's date and then right here for 9th grade you want to stop writing the classes that you're currently taking so you may have a question that says you know what I don't know what classes I'm actually currently taking so if you're not sure what classes you're currently taking right now for ninth grade you want to follow me steps and then I'll guide you through that process right now so we first one is follow step one which is going to the Bassett High School website which is right here we want to click on the upper right hand corner where it says quick links and then you want to scroll down and look for Office 365 so when you click on that it is going to ask you to login using your student information and then it'll take you to a screen similar to this one am I look differently from mine cuz you are a student and then once it says Office 365 on the left hand side click on the waffle right here and then we're going to scroll down and look for synergy click on the Synergy icon and it should take you right here perfect so then you should be able to find your classes here on your synergyportal for 9th grade once you have that information we're going to go back to your 4-year plan and enter those classes here and then on the same on your synergyportal you should be able to see what grades you receive your first semester so I'm just going to put some simple ones here if you're if you're just taking English 9 and you leave it blank and if you're taking honors you'll type that for since you're a freshman then you're either taking AP Human Geography to meet the ethnic studies requirement or you took ethnic studies your first semester you're going to enter in the math that you're currently taking some of you might be either an integrated math 2 or an integrated math 1 or integrated math 1 honors or integrated math 2 honors so then you'll put the specific class that you're currently taking my case I'll just put integrated math 1 there's also cases where students have taking mast in the summer so then if you took integrated math 1 in the summer then that means this you're you're taking integrated math 2 and then for science you're going to put the appropriate class that you took so either you're taking Integrated Science one Integrated Science 2 Integrated Science 1 honors or Integrated Science 2 honors so let's go ahead I'm going to stay I'm taking Integrated Science 1 and then PE is required your 9th and 10th grade so I'm taking p Eva's here and then you're going to type in the elective so the next class that you are currently taking so whether that's a Visual and Performing Arts if you're taking are or Ceramics or band or if you're taking foreign language maybe you're taking Spanish 1 if you're a non-native speaker or Spanish speakers one if you do speak Spanish or you maybe even taking one of our career pathway we do have three career Pathways which I will show and it's on slide 12 so either if you're part of the house Academy business or engineering if you're taking any of these classes this year than you want go ahead and add it on the section so for the purposes of this I'm going to put that I'm in art for my bedroom Performing Arts requirement and if you need a reference to graduation requirements just know that you need to scroll down and you'll find it right here and tell you exactly the requirements that you need to graduate from high school and a through G requirements for University admission okay let's go to 10th grade now sofra 10th grade you're going to need an English you're going to need a map and you're going to take modern world history of 10th grade a science and PE the free English you're either going to be taking English 10 English 10 honors or if you do become part of the health Academy that you'll be taking English 10 Health Academy for modern world history you can either take the regular class you have the opportunity to take AP modern world history which is which has advanced placement and you have the opportunity to earn college credit so if this is you know and opportunity for you to challenge yourself and take a rigorous class during High School no feel free to add this to your plan or if you are in the health Academy than you do need to be enrolled in the modern world history Health Academy you would have to add what's your plan for Mom some of you will be an integrated math 2 integrated math 2 honors integrated math 3 integrated math 3 honors and then science either Integrated Science 2 Integrated Science 2 honors te10 and then a career path course or an elective so then let's go back here and then plant let's plan your courses so then if you are an English 9 on his right now this we would highly recommend that you continue in honors and you take English 10 honors if you're not in honors then just keep in mind that if you do want to be a part of if you want to be enrolling Honors that you have to get an A this year and if you're not in honors and you want to just continue taking regular English then he would just stay at Englishtown okay let's say I decide I do want to take AP World so then I'mma put a pee there and then since I took integrated math to my 9th grade I'll put integrated math 3 and then for science I took Integrated Science one this year so next year I plan to take Integrated Science 2 and I'm PE it's 2 years so I took the Alaska and then I'm going to take PE this next year and then for my career path course or elect I'm still here I can either choose an elective or I can choose a career path of course so then if we go here and terms of electives that can either be an art class for my vision Performing Arts that could be a foreign language which we offer Spanish and then we offer American Sign Language we also have student government choir your book journalism or if we're interested in the career path we have the health Academy business and Engineering one thing to know is if you do if you are part of the house Academy you have to start your 10th grade and you have to take these courses in sequel do medical Corps 10th grade medical assistant 11th grade and in hospital occupations or 12th grade so just something to keep in mind so let's am interested in business I want to pursue the Business Parkway because I want to do something with in marketing so then I'm going to add the first class which is business personal finance and I need to make sure that I take the other two classes for the following years so that I can finish that pathway so then we can automatically add them for the rest of the the rest of the years which is business marketing and then we have business management okay Phil so far we've done English you done history math science and then we have our career pathway course and then we have a Visual and Performing Arts so if we go down here and we look at what we're missing we are still missing a foreign language if I plan go to the university so it's two years and the same language so 2 years of Spanish or I can choose to take American Sign Language through dual enrollment so I want to make sure that I did that because I do want to go to the diversity let's go on to 11th grade so for 11th grade you're going to take English Math Science and US history so whether that's a p English or AP 11th Health Academy or just regular English 11 Max I can take integrated math 3 integrated math 2 honors trach and pre-cal stats or AP Calculus and then for science if I want to take a third-year even though it's not required but it's recommended for the University I can take Integrated Science 3 and 2 grade honors AP chem we also offer physics and so on so please refer to the catalog if you want a full description of specific classes that we offer so these are just some of the ones that I mentioned and then we do have to take us history have the option of taking regular u.s. History AP u.s. History or health and then here during the 11th grade is when I can add in my foreign language my visual performing arts or elected because keep in mind that you do need 65 credits graduate so Spanish Spanish American Sign Language Art choir band salon and then a career pathway course so let's go ahead and add that in I'm going to continue in English actually want to take AP u.s. History and because I'm taking it 10th grade I plan to take a 10th grade so I'll continue in AP u.s. History for 11th grade I've taken integrated math 1 the summer I took him to get him back to my ninth-grade I plan to take it integrated math 3 my 10th grade and so after that comes taking precalculus so then I would anything here for science I'm still debating if I should take a third-year there's only two years that are required for 3 years are recommended so I can just add it to my plan and we go your look will have taken so Integrated Science 1/2 I can take AP chem or we can look at a car catalog and then see which other classes are being offered so alright so right here it's going to show you the extensive list there's AP Chemistry there's physics key physics and anatomy and physiology for the science so I don't want to take AP chem I don't want to take physics but I am interested in and out of me and Physiology for my 30 years so I'm going to add that in Theology and I remembered that I haven't added a foreign language yet so I am a Spanish speaker I do speak Spanish so instead of Spanish one I'm going to plan to take Spanish speakers 1 and since I do need two years of Spanish I'm going to add that here smiley speakers to for next year okay so we're almost done now we're going to review 12th grade class to take our English mass American government and economics and science so you can either take English 12 AP English which is literature or do I can take English 1 and 1 seeing which are college-level witches are closely with college-level English classes offered throughout stock to our dual enrollment program and then for American government nikan we only offer the regular American government and health Academy and then for Mass there's going to be tricking pre-cal AP calculus or statistics science I can take AP chem V anatomy and physiology or I can decide to opt out and not take science and just take another elective instead and then you could be as follows Spanish aslr choir band excetera and then another career path course our plan so for English 12 I actually want to give it a try and I want to take a college-level class through Mount Sac it is going to be offered here at Bassett so I'm going to do that I want to take wish one day and Wednesday I'm still going to decide to take American government econ my 12th grade for those of you who want to go to get ahead you can also take it in the summer after your junior year if not to leave room for more electives to take your 12 that's an option that you have if not you can just leave it as is and then for math it is preferred that you take four years of math and so we're going to since I've heard taking trig and precalc then I might consider taking statistics and then for science I'm not going to take a science I'd rather take an elective so I can choose from the list and I can view the course catalog to see specific classes that I want to take and I actually want to be in a SB which is student leadership so I'm going to put that on my plan and then that completes my 4-year so I'm done in terms of the classes that I've planned out we would be interested in knowing what careers you're interested in so whether that's construction Nursing Pharmacy text the one I will quit nursing if you're there specific colleges that you have in mind that you plan to that you're interested in learning more information about you can put that here in the section and then if you know how many community service hours you have you can put that here if not you can leave it blank and then what we're at can you to do is make sure that you signed this and date it and then also have your parents sign and date as well okay they're going to save this document upload it to your assignments tab on the car career seminar class and you're all set and you're going to receive those 50 points your teacher has assigned for this assignment if you have any specific questions feel free to reach out to me mister or your counselor thank you so much for you
